How to handle RS485 Communication issue


1.    Purpose:

If the monitoring system displays the alarm “RS485 Communication issue”, this document guides you on how to check and solve the issue.

 2. Issue description:

The monitoring system displays the alarm “RS485 Communication issue”.

 3. Possible root cause of the issue:

3.1 On-site environmental disturbance.

3.2 Incorrect setting of communication address.

3.3 Incorrect connection of RS485 cable.

3.4 Detection Board fault.  

 4. Checking steps and solution:

4.1  Check whether the communication recorded by the monitoring software in the SCADA is intermittent.

4.1.1 If intermittent, the communication issue is caused by environmental disturbance.

4.1.2 If not, proceed to the next step

4.2 Check whether the communication address has been set correctly.

Note: In the RS485 network, the communication site address for each inverter must be unique under the same gateway. The address is set to 1 by default.

4.2.1 If the address is not set correctly, change the communication address.

4.2.2 If the address setting is correct, proceed to the next step.

4.3 Check whether the RS485 communication cables are correctly connected.

4.3.1 If they are connected properly, proceed to the next step.

4.3.2 If not, ensure that the cables are connected in a correct manner.

4.4 If the issue persists, contact Hopewind service for further assistance.
